Training that adapts. And tells you why.

ASCEND uses your sessions to work out what’s due today: load, reps, sets and rest. Every target has a “Why?” with the numbers behind it.

Free. By signing up, you agree that we send you e-mails about ASCEND: when the app launches, and before that at most once a month about how development is going. Leave any time with one click. Privacy

How it works
  • Encrypted on your device
  • Works without an account
  • No ads
  • 1 sentencetells you each morning what is due today
  • 142exercises with drawings and muscle mapping
  • 7,090staple foods without a barcode, from the German BLS 4.0
  • Offlinetraining, history and targets without a connection
The loop

Ready. Train. Adapt. Progress.

Most apps take notes. ASCEND closes the loop: every session sets the target for the next one, and your day shapes today’s session.

01 · READINESS

How ready are you today? Measured against you.

A check-in before training, one question per screen, done in 30 seconds. If you like, HRV, resting heart rate and sleep join in. The score is measured against your own last 28 days, never against other people’s average.

  • Fresh, Limited or Strained – and what that means for today
  • Values from Health Connect, Apple Health or WHOOP replace questions
  • “Same as yesterday” reuses the previous day’s answers
Check-in: How sore are you? Five answers in words, “Mild” selected, below them the readiness preview.
02 · TRAIN

One exercise in focus. Everything within reach of your thumb.

Load and reps sit large in the middle; rest, RIR and “Complete set” at the bottom, where your thumb is. The screen stays on while you train.

  • Plates per side and warm-up sets are worked out for you
  • “Same as set 1” in one tap; swipe to switch exercises
  • Rest timer, supersets, records the moment you hit them
  • Deleted a set? “Undo” puts it back in its place
Running session: barbell bench press, set 2 of 3, 82.5 kg for 8, rest 1:35, RIR 2.
03 · ADAPT

Your next target is ready before you shower.

Once you save, ASCEND computes the next session from this one: more load if you reached the top of the rep range, the same load if you didn’t. ASCEND spots when a deload is due, when you plateau and when you return after a break, and suggests what to do. You decide.

  • Safety before readiness before plateau before progression – in a fixed order
  • Load only goes up once you complete at least 75% of the sets
  • A weekly briefing shows one decision at a time
Session done: a bench press record, e1RM up 7 kg. Below, “ASCEND adjusts”: today 82.5 kg for 10, 10, 10 reps, next time 3 by 6 at 85 kg, plus 2.5 kg.
04 · PROGRESS

Numbers that mean something.

Estimated max (e1RM) and trend per exercise, a Strength Score across your movement patterns, records that follow from your history. Every screen starts with a sentence, and the chart shows it.

  • Volume per muscle against your own range
  • Goals with a forecast of when you’ll reach them
  • Trend weight instead of the daily number
Progress: bench press e1RM up 23 kg since July 30, with a 12-week chart from 111 to 134 kg. Below it, small, the Strength Score 826, provisional from 2 of 6 movement patterns, and the main lifts with their e1RM, the squat up 23 kg over the same range.
How this target comes about: last time 80 kg for 10, 10, 10 reps; today 3 by 6 at 82.5 kg, plus 2.5 kg. Top of 6 to 10 reached.
The “Why?”

No recommendation without a reason.

Every target follows fixed rules you can look up. Tap “Why?” to see what it is based on.

  1. The numbers first“Last time 80 kg, 3 × 10 – top of the range reached → today 82.5 kg.” From which session, with its date.
  2. Then the reasonsIn words, in the order they were weighed. What was overridden is listed too.
  3. And how solid the data isHow certain the statement is – more careful after three sessions than after thirty.

The engines compute, the AI Coach only explains. Every AI answer is checked against the engines’ numbers; if one doesn’t match, you see the fixed explanation instead. AI text is always labeled.

Features

Depth where it counts.

Everything serious training needs. And nothing that slows you down mid-session.

Today in one sentence

“Fresh. Bench press goes up to 82.5 kg today.” The first screen says what’s next, with the week strip and your week in the block, your next session and its time budget. For the main lift, “last time” stands beside “today”, with the difference. When a deload is due, it sits right below: every exercise shows its plan and its deload (say, 3 by 8 to 2 by 8 at the same weight), and you choose: deload this week, put it off or train without it. If you just start, that counts as “this week”.

  • Fixed weekdays or rotation
  • A time budget trims the session before you start it
  • “Today” widget for your home screen (Android)
Today: block 4 of 5 under the week, above it the sentence “Deload this week: 6 sets instead of 9.” and the line “Later or without a deload”. Below it the next session, Upper body A, each exercise with its plan and its deload, such as the bench press from 3 by 8 to 2 by 8 at 82.5 kg and the button “Start with deload”.

Switch in minutes

Your data

Yours. Kept with you.

Training data says a lot about a person. ASCEND treats it that way: encrypted on the device, fully usable without an account, each consent revocable separately.

  • Encrypted on the deviceThe database on your phone is encrypted; the key sits in the system keychain.
  • Servers in the EUWith an account, ASCEND syncs with a database in the Stockholm region, Sweden.
  • Health data only if you wantHRV, resting heart rate, sleep and recovery, each allowed separately. Revoking deletes them on the device and on the server.
  • Export and deleteTake everything with you as JSON or CSV; delete your account and data in the app.

FAQ

Good to know.

Who is ASCEND for?

For people who want measurable progress in the weight room and have been training for a while. If you are just starting, you get a first plan based on your days, equipment and experience – the depth reveals itself with every session.

How does ASCEND know what I can do today?

From your history: load, reps and RIR of your recent sessions, plus your readiness. The rules are deterministic and documented; the same data always yields the same target. Without history, ASCEND starts from your starting values or an import.

Do I have to follow the targets?

No. You can accept any target or enter your own load. A deload that is due is already in your next session, but you can put it off or train without it; ASCEND learns from what you actually train.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Training, history, targets and analysis run on the device. You only need a connection to sync with your account, search the food catalog and use the AI Coach.

What does the AI Coach do – and what doesn’t it do?

It puts the engines’ results into words. It decides nothing and never receives raw health values or your name. Every answer is checked against the numbers before you see it. Without the coach, ASCEND shows the fixed explanations.

Does ASCEND replace medical advice?

No. ASCEND is not a medical device. If you are in pain or have health concerns, talk to a doctor.

Which devices are supported?

Android 8.0 and later, iPhone with iOS 15 and later. The app is available in German and English.

Your next set already has a number.
